Is this filter good for a 8 gallon planted shrimp tank (beautiful bowfront euro tank purchased here)

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding the use of a Red Devil canister filter (RD-30G) on an 8 gallon EuroStyle aquarium. We feel this unit might be too much for this sized aquarium. The RD-30G has an output of 135 gph and yields a turnover rate of approximately 16 times per hour. This is a fair amount of flow and most likely be disruptive to your potential shrimp environment. Granted, the RD-30G offers and adjustable flow rate, you'd most likely be dialing the flow rate back by at least 50%. If you are dialing back your flow rate 50%, the unit is over-sized and a smaller unit should be considered. We have a good alternative for your potential shrimp environment called the PFE-3. This is a hang-on style filter that offers mechanical, chemical and biological filtration; a complete filtration system. Below is a link for this unit.
