The CF300 is one of our most popular canister filters and you really can't beat it for the price. The 264 GPH multi-stage filtration system is ideal for fresh and saltwater aquariums ranging in size from 20 gallons to 75 gallons. The CF300 defies its low price because it comes equipped with all the necessary plumbing for installation and includes three large filtration media compartments allowing you to add the filtration media of your choice. The filtration media trays offer a fully customized filtration system to suit your specific aquatic needs. The CF300 includes three fine filter pads (white) and a single coarse filter sponge (blue) for enhanced Mechanical Filtration. With the addition of AquaTop’s Premium Activated Carbon, Ceramic Rings, or Bio-Balls (each sold separately), you’ll achieve superior filtration and crystal clear aquarium water. The CF300 canister filter has a convenient Prime Pump that eliminates the need for manual siphoning! Say good bye to a mouth full of aquarium water!!!

How Does the CF-300 Canister Filter Work?
Unfiltered aquarium water enters the CF Series Canister Filter and passes by the U.V. Sterilizing Bulb flowing down the stack of vertical cylinder cutouts to the bottom of the CF Filter. Then water is pushed up through the filtration media compartments; the bottom compartment first, the middle compartment second, and the top compartment third. The filtered aquarium water then returns from the CF Canister back into the aquarium. * U.V. Sterilizing Unit not available in CF300 but assembles and filters in the exact same manner as the CF-400 and CF-500*

Does it come w/ all the media?
What happened if theirs a power outages or power drift,do you need to prime it again?
By Customer Service on January 9, 2012

Answer:
Greetings,

This is a great set of questions.

The CF Series of Canister Filter includes three fine, white filter pads and a single course, blue filter sponge. The blue filter sponge is highly durable and will help collect larger organics. The white filter pads help catch smaller organics and should be replace as they show signs of wear.

If there is a power outage or 'power drift' the unit will start back up again without the need of Priming.

If there is anything further we may do for you please let us know.

The height of the cabinet under my fish tank is 14.5 inches, would this unit fit in it? Is the 14 inch height in the discription include the height of inlet and outlet valves on top of the unit?
By Customer Service on May 8, 2012

Answer:
Greetings Rick,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding AquaTop's CF300 canister filter. The height of the unit without the Single Quick Disconnect Valve is 14.5" From the description on your aquarium cabinetry we do not think the unit will fit inside. The Single Quick Disconnect Valve installed with hoses will add an additional 2 -3 to the total height of the unit. You have have another option, the CF300 can be placed on the side of your aquarium system.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

does it come with bioballs, active carbon or what it come?
i have a 90gallons aquarium

By Customer Service on October 22, 2012

Answer:
Hello Max,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding a CF300 canister filter. Each CF unit includes fine filter pads and a coarse filter sponge. Biological and chemical filtration media can be purchased separately at the link below.

http://www.truaqua.com/aquarium-filtration-media.html

The CF300 is rated for aquariums UP TO 75 GALLONS. We do not recommend using a CF300 as the sole source of aquarium filtration. We recommend bumping up to the next size filter for you 90 gallon aquarium. If you have a per-existing filter and would like to use a CF300 in conjunction this should be sufficient.

If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to ask.

I want to get this filter for a 28g bow front tank. I was wondering even with the
Spray bar is it too much flow. I noticed you can't adjust the flow rate so
Anyone with experience knows that'd be great.
By Customer Service on January 18, 2012

Answer:
Greetings Freddy,

We understand you are interested in adding the CF300 Canister Filter to your 28 gallon bow-front aquarium and you are concerned with the 264 gallon per hour flow rate.

Whether the CF300 Canister Filter is suitable for your aquarium set-up really depends on what type of fish you are keeping and your long-terms goals with the aquarium environment.

At 28 gallons, the CF300 will turnover the water column roughly 8 times an hour. This turnover rate is suitable for most aquatic creatures and their environments.

If you would like to share a little more about your aquarium set-up and goals, we'll be better suited to assist you.

I have not yet purchased this filter but I was wondering if it would work well on a 50 gallon saltwater aquarium? Thanks
By Customer Service on November 9, 2012

Answer:
Hello Jessie,
The CF300 Canister filter is capable of handling a 50 gallon saltwater tank but it may be running close to its maximum filtration capacity being that there are more elements in saltwater than in freshwater. You might consider the CF-400UV because it has a higher filtration capacity in the sense of overall volume that it can hold and it is rated at 370 GPH. This allows the water to pass through the filter more frequently, yielding cleaner water. The CF400-UV also contains a germicidal UV bulb that will zap harmful microorganisms and prevent algae blooms from occurring. Both canister filters will meet your needs; however, the CF300 will have to work a little harder than the CF400 and may require more frequent cleanings.

I am looking at the bundle of the CF-300 and the inline 5W Uv sterilizer. The CF-300 has a flow rate of 264 gal/hr but the inline UV only can take 105 gal/hr. So how does that work?
By Customer Service on December 17, 2012

Answer:
Hello Jon,
The Aquatop CF-300 canister filter and IL5-UV in-line filter bundle was designed to closely match the specs of our CF500-UV canister filter. The CF-500 is rated at 525 GPH, for a ratio of about 1 watt per 58 gallons of water. The CF-300 at 264 GPH paired with the IL5-UV will yield about 1 watt to 50 gallons of water flow. The 105 GPH is on the low end of the spectrum (as opposed to what the IL5 can handle) but it maintains full water volume in the exposure chamber. There will be no flow rate restrictions running the IL5 in conjunction with the CF-300 canister filter, and you should find that this bundle offers fast and consistent results. Other units we carry offer different ratios; however, tests have shown a 1 watt to 40-60 GPH is extremely effective in a canister filter setup.

Thank you

Hello, About 9 months (or so) ago, I purchased your CF 300 canister filter, which works GREAT! However, it works so good that the intake tube sucks up baby fish and Java moss. Do you make something like a pre filter, that slips over the intake part? or do you have any ideas on how I can remedy this on my own? I would greatly appreciate any help you can give.
By Customer Service on February 22, 2012

Answer:
Hello Kim,

We understand the issue at hand. What you are experiencing is not uncommon especially if you own live-bearing fish. We would recommend using some type of sponge filter that could be retro-fitted to the canister's intake.

Here are two links to two items which may work for you.

http://truaqua.com/aquatop-internal-sponge-filter-sf-xy2810.html

This above item is a sponge filter and can be hooked up to the intake of your canister.

http://truaqua.com/aquatop-internal-wall-mount-sponge-filter-sf-xy2831.html

The above item is similar but more geared for attachment to filter intakes.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

I just bought this canister filter for my "turtle's" (Natalie) 29/30 gallon tank and I don't know if I've made a mistake in buying the "right" type of filter for a turtle's tank. I'm desperately trying to find a system which works best for my turtle. She's an "aquatic painted turtle" and I adore her but not the mess she makes. I'm going to set up the old tank for feeding purposes only, it's a 10 gallon which will make cleaning a bit easier. I've not set up the canister yet, I guess because of my doubts & I thought it said it came ready to go, does this include the "media" needed or do I also need to get it before setting up the new tank?
By Customer Service on January 4, 2013

Answer:
Hello Linda,
Turtles are wonderful but they do make quite a mess. The CF300 Canister filters will work great on a turtle tank due to the added filtration capacity versus a hang on back type filter or internal power filter. The CF-300 does not come with chemical or biological filtration media but does come with filter pads that serve as mechanical filtration. If you have any problems setting the canister filter up, call us directly and we can guide you.

By Jordan from winnipeg, MB on March 31, 2012
How often should you clean/change out filter media?
By Customer Service on April 2, 2012

Answer:
Greetings Jordan,

Good question.

Mechanical filtration media such as Filter Pads & Filter Sponges should be rinsed as frequently as you are willing to do so and replaced when they shows signs of wear or tear. Frequently rinsing mechanical filtration media means organics or pollutants are frequently leaving the system.

Chemical filtration media such as Activated Carbon is good for roughly 30 days and should be replace thereafter.

Biological filtration media such as Ceramic Rings or Bio Balls should be removed from their filtration media compartment & rinsed with aquarium water inside a fish safe container when they become laden with organics or debris. Never rinse biological filtration media with Tap Water nor leave it exposed to air for prolonged periods of time.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

Nice Filter
April 1, 2012
This thing is worlds better than my HOB filter and I feel it is just as good as the more expensive canisters and equal in quality. The only think that wasn't great was the priming pump tried it for about 10-15 min and it would not prime but i just primed it like a regular canister and it did worked fine and you don't have to re prime unless you clean the tubes of intake/spray bar, so in my opinion no big deal.

Aquatop Canister Filter
March 7, 2012
i have had tanks on and off all my life but mostly 30 gals or less. my son wanted an fire eel and we bought a 55 gal tank off of craig's list. the filter was the type you hang on the side and made all type of noise. plus we had put fine sand in the bottom for the eel to burrow in. the tank just wasn't getting clear after a couple days. so i ordered the aquatop the kids set it up while i was gone over the weekend and in one day the water was clear. haven't cleaned it yet, so i don't know how easy that is. the pump is very quiet. in fact you can't hear it. the air pump we have makes a light humming noise and i unplugged it to see if i could hear the filter and you can't. got my order quickly with all the parts. will probably buy another one soon because i think i am now going to get a big tank

This filter cleaned my filthey 20 gallon turtle tank crystal clear after only 20 hours of running. The only cons are that the hosees are hard to get out of there coiled position and and the intake tube is long other than this this filter is very easy to esemble. My 12 year old son essembled and installed it while i was at work. He had to use the chopsaw to make the intake tube shorter.

This is an excellent filter. It is currently being used on my 55 gallon native aquarium. water was cloudy before and after setting up this filter and using the sample packet of water clarifier the water is now crystal clear! there is virtually NO noise even when right up next to the cannister. Price was the deciding factor here in that this filter performs as well as top of the line filters for less than HALF the price!!

Use the product for a turtle/tropical fish mix 55g tank. Works great but I should have got the 400 or 500 series with a turtle involved due to the bio-load. Had to add a hang on back to help a bit. But the 300 series is perfect for the "just fish" tank. I am definately happy with it especially for its price. It's easy on the bank and wallet. Thanks!

Good Canister Filter at a Great Price
January 23, 2012
This is my first canister filter. My previous experience is with hang on the back "box" filters. I wanted to try a canister filter for a 29 gallon freshwater tank in my sons room. Very easy to set up. Comes with coarse sponge/foam for bottom compartment and 3 fine "polishing" filters (one for each of the three compartments) for your mechanical filtration. You need to provide chemical filtration media if you choose, and the biological media you want to use in the filter. So far it is very quiet. I have to be right next to the enclosed lower cabinet of the aquarium stand with the room completely quiet to hear it running. Fastening the top can be a little "finicky", but not problematic. You just need to be sure that the media trays are stacked correctly when placing them back into the canister. So far this filter has met or exceeded my expectations. Cannot comment on durability given it has only been functioning a few days.
Pros:
Effective, Quiet, Simple set up
