Can Your Canister Filter be use for a 20 gal. long half full for Turtles or what filter would be best.
By Customer Service on October 22, 2012

Answer:
Hello Marvin,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding the use of an EF-200 canister filter on a 20gal turtle aquarium. This unit will do fine on this sized aquarium but we do have another unit which might be better suited for your setup; the Red Devil Series of hang-on style canister filters. The units offer all the benefits of canister filtration but in a scaled-down foot print. Below is a link to the Red Devil filters; model RD-30G.

http://www.truaqua.com/aquarium-hang-on-canister-filter-rd-30g.html

The RD-30G can hook up to the RD-Pre for double filtration capacity. These units are easy to install and run quiet.

If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Can I use this for a 20 gallon tank or would it be too powerful?
By Customer Service on May 23, 2012

Answer:
Greetings Michael,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding the use of an ER-200 canister filters on a 20 gallon aquarium. The EF-200 has a flow rate of 211 GPH which will yield a turnover rate of approximately 10 times per hour. Depending on the fish you are keeping this flow rate may or may not be suitable for your aquarium setup.

Would you mind sharing a little more information about your aquarium and its inhabitants? With more information we'll be better suited to assist you.

By Thomas from beaufort on June 18, 2012
could you use for small 50 gal pond?
By Customer Service on June 20, 2012

Answer:
Hello Thomas,

The EF Series of Canister Filter is for indoor use only. Outdoor applications will void the manufacturer warranty.

If your pond is indoor the unit must be gravity fed and will perform as though it were on an aquarium.

If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to ask.

I currently have a 27 gallon saltwater aquarium with a H.O.T magnum Marineland HOB filter but was curious if replacing the HOB with this canister filter would be okay and beneficial?
By Customer Service on July 16, 2012

Answer:
Hello Jay,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding the replacement of a HOT Magnum Filter with AquaTop's EF-200 Canister Filter. The unit is completely suitable for use on a 27 gallon aquarium and there are many added benefits to the use of a Canister Filter. Number one would be the ability to completely customize the filtration media and number two is there is much more filtration capacity with this type of unit. The EF-200 will hold a tremendous more amount of biological filtration media when compared to the HOT Magnum Filter. If you like the 'hang-on style of the HOT Magnum we recommend checking out the Red Devil Series. The RD-30G is our newest filter and is sure to make a splash (no pun intended).

The RD-30G is expandable with the RD-Pre with double filtration capacity and might be a good fit for your aquarium. The Red Devil Series is located here.

can this handle a 55 gallon fresh water tank...(not may fish either)
By Customer Service on July 16, 2012

Answer:
Mike,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding the use of an EF-200 on a 55 gallon aquarium. The EF-200 has a maximum capacity of 50 gallons. The EF-200 is not well suited for use on a 55 gallon aquarium if it is to be the sole source of filtration. If you were to use the EF-200 in conjunction with another filter it should do just fine.

If you are looking to have one filter running/supporting your aquarium we recommend stepping it up a size and using the EF-300 which can be located at the link below.

1. Is this filter self-priming?
2. If the return valve is slightly closed can flow be regulated. I'd like to use this filter on a planted 20 gallon tank. Can flow rate be reduced by half?
By Customer Service on August 3, 2012

Answer:
Hello Mike,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding the use of an EF-200 on a 20 gallon planted aquarium.

The unit is not self-priming.
We do not recommend reducing the flow rate by 50%.

We have a really neat unit you might be interested in. It is a hang-on style canister filter called the RD-30G. This unit does approximately 135 GPH and offers all of the same benefits a canister filter offers. The unit does offer an adjustable flow rate. We highly recommend checking this unit out. The unit has four filter compartments and out of the box the unit is ready to go (please rinse everything). The filtration system is comprised of two filter compartments with ceramic rings, one compartment with activated carbon and filters pads and sponges of different densities.

Below is a link.

I just got the ef-200 what order do i put the media in, does this flow from top to bottom or bootom to top
By Customer Service on April 6, 2012

Answer:
Greetings Danny,

The flow pattern of the EF Series is bottom to top. We recommend stacking mechanical filtration in the bottom compartment with the least dense material on bottom and the denser material on top, chemical filtration in the middle compartment and biological filtration in the top compartment.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

For the price it is a decent filter.

I am a beginner and using it for 55 gallon community aquarium; I have three of such the size. On every tank I use a canister filter because they are quiet and very effective. It can hold much more of bacteria media than HOB to keep the balance right and they shorten the nitrogen cycle dramatically. The water flow inside the filter is very well controlled and the rubber gaskets are used to avoid the water seepage between filtering stages. I was pleased with the long thinner spray bar to keep water moving inside the aquarium. The clear color of the tubing and plastic spray bar is the nice touch too. I hope that the hoses would not get disconnected from intake and outtake tubes because they do not have any clamps included; I put a couple plastic ties on to free my mind from it. I had to warm the hoses in the warm water and let them hang overnight to get them a little bit straight. The first problem is the unclear manual printed out in a small booklet format with tiny letters. I would prefer regular format without fancy color pictures but clear instruction how to put it together, and what the best way to use the included filter media. It should be more on the regular use and maintenance too. The second problem was that the primer cup broke as soon I tried to screw it back: it was too weak. And there are no instruction how to use it. The priming of the filter is very challenging, took me awhile to get it running even it was full of water. But how many people have the previous experience or an advanced degree in hydraulics? People will simply return it after an initial try to prime it. I would recommend it for others and possibly buy one more. The price with a free fast shipping is hard to resist.
Pros:
Easy to Use, Effective, Good Value
Cons:
Difficult to Use
Best Uses:
Freshwater Tanks, Large Aquariums
