By Mark from Newport News, Va on March 24, 2012 I trying to replace a 150 watt heater on a 20 gallon tank. I can get a 30 degree room change so I need the 150. They seem to make a 100 watt and 200 watt. Can a 100 watt be used and if needed a 50 watt? I know people do use two in a tank but these are generally of the same wattage. Anyone tried using two different watt heaters in the same tank? I really don't want to go to 200 as the 150 has worked well and has had no problem keeping up. By Customer Service on March 25, 2012Answer:Greetings Mark,
It is safe to assume hobbyist have heaters of different wattage in the same aquarium. It is very true hobbyist use two heaters in an aquarium as well. And there are a few good reasons for this.
Due to the potential 30 degree swing, as you mentioned, the D2HT-200 is well suited for your application. Unlike traditional heaters, the D2HT Series includes a separate temperature probe for a highly accurate reading. Traditional heaters read temp as they are heating and this is happening from the same source. In a 20 gallon aquarium like yours, there is a potential for overheating when using a traditional heater of higher wattage. The D2HT Series takes out the guess work by using a separate temperature probe. When your aquarium water reaches the target temperature, the D2HT Series heater powers down. For your application, a traditional heater may overshoot the target temperature subjecting your aquatic life to higher than normal temperatures, plus a dip in temperature after the heater has stabilized.

Dual Digital Display
March 2, 2013
Nice heater, love the dual display. Very accurate. Never
worry about the temp in the tank. Just a glance tells me the set
and actual temperature. Only complaint is the first one only lasted
18 months, but they did offer a replacement at 1/2 price which I
thought was very respectable. I would recommend this unit and would
buy again.
Pros:Safe, Good Value, Effective, Easy to Use
Cons:Warranty, Life Expectancy
Best Uses:Small Aquariums, Freshwater Tanks

Digital Dual Display heater
February 14, 2013
I really like these heaters. I can look at the tank and
see the heater setting and water temperature at a glance. Keeps the
tank at a consistent temperature without worry. The one and only
thing I don't care for is that my heater failed after just 18
months. TruAqua was good enough to offer a 50% discount on a
replacement even though it was well past the warranty
period.
Pros:Effective, Good Value, Nice Visual Display, Accurate, Easy to Use, Safe, Durable
Cons:Short Life, Short warranty period
Best Uses:Small Aquariums, Freshwater Tanks, Saltwater Tanks, Large Aquariums

I use this product in my 25 gallon community tank. It
keeps a constant temperature, with no fluctuations. I tested the
digtal read out against an accurate thermometer, and it was spot on
with accuracy. The only thing I would change, is, the instructions
say to place the sensor on the opposite side of the tank, but the
length of the sensor cord does not accommodate large
aquariums.

Very Nice
January 6, 2012
Pretty sweet heater. It keeps my Tilapia Fry nice and
toasty at exactly what it's set at...86° F. Only thing I don't
like about it, is how bright the display and little light are.
(Tank is in my bedroom) My room is pitch black and I can see the
fish swimming around...from the other side of the room. Kind of a
nice red ambience if you're one of the people who like dim night
time lighting on their tank. Not for me though. Don't get me wrong,
the display is really great during the day, but I wish you could
dim it at night. Very accurate, compact, and feels pretty high
quality. I would say it could hold its own against any other
digital heater on the market (am I allowed to say that?)
Pros:Digital, Good Value, Safe, Durable, Easy to Use, Effective
Cons:Pretty Bright

This item is fantastic; I thought, at first, it was a
little pricey but considering that I would pay anything to make my
environment comfortable it's not so bad. I feel that my fish tank
is very safe and fish friendly; their activity suggests that they
are very happy. I did make a water change recently and the
temperature adjusted pretty quickly, impressive! Thank you for a
great product

This aquarium heater works great. Very easy to install
and there is just one button to make temperature setting. Simple
for the technologically challenged like myself. The look is sleek
and doesn't take away from the natural look of my aquariums. I have
my temperature set at 80, it usually isn't 80 in my small 10 gallon
tank, but remains at 79 or 81 and the heater turns on and off
automatically as needed.
Pros:Durable, Easy to Use, Safe, Effective, Good Value, Sleek

Accurate Digital Temperature Control
December 9, 2011
Excellent product and quick overnight delivery. Tight
temperature control range...much better than analog units. It would
be helpful to offer a removable optional clear vinyl jacket to
prevent breakage. My second unit broke easily in accidental contact
with glass but I was able to order a replacement and have it within
two days. Overall, I am very happy with these units and TruAqua
service.

Amazing Heater
November 15, 2011
I bought this heater for my 40G fresh water breeder tank.
It has worked flawlessly for the past 3 months and I couldn't be
happier!!! The last thing I wanted was a heater with a dial and
other brands that offer digital read outs are very over priced. I'm
so pleased with it's performance that I bought another one for my
10G Nano tank. That too has been up and running for just over 2
months and it's great. The 100w heater for both tanks is more than
enough, plus the price was unbeatable. Don't question the heater
when you see it and the price, just buy it, you'll see. Thanks
TruAqua for an awesome product.

AQUATOP Digital Heater
The D2HT Dual Digital Display Heater from AQUATOP
By David Lass, Aquarium Fish Int'l Magazine, December 2011
The new digital heater from Aquatop Aquatic Supplies includes a number of features and benefits;
it is an excellent aquarium heater.
CLAIMS: Aquatop claims that the heater is easy to use and will maintain the aquarium
temperature correctly.
TESTS: I tested a 300-Watt Aquatop Digital Heater on a 50-gallon planted tank. Over a few
weeks, I raised the water temperature by 2 degrees every other day and then lowered it 2
degrees, going from 70 to 80 degrees Farenheit and back down.
RESULTS: The heater performed perfectly. I confirmed each adjustment with two thermometers
in the tank. the display on the heater clearly shows the set temperature and the actual
temperature. It is easy to turn the heater on and off, and to make temperature adjustments.
The heater itself is well-made, with suction cups for mounting it to the glass. I especially
like that it has integrated temperature probe that is mounted 6 inches or so from the heater,
which I think is more accurate than relying on having the sensor within the heater itself.
CONCLUSION: The Aquatop Aquatic Supplies Digital Heater is an excellent piece of equipment,
and I encourage hobbyists to use it. It is easy to use, accurate to within 1 degree, well-made
and sturdy.
