PF-600 Hang-On Filter

Easy setup without surprise. Wish the water flow was stronger.

I bought this filer after trying several other filters of comparable flow rates. This is by far the quietest filter I found. The filter media is pretty good, and it did a pretty good job at keeping the tank clean. Recently I added a partition with an opening at the bottom and placed it in the area where the filter goes in. Made a carbon holder from some meshed fabric, and am using filter floss and carbon at the primary side of the water flow. After the water comes up from the opening in the partition, it passes through foam bacterial media. This ensures that all of the water is filtered in the same way and there is no bypass. I am happy to say that the tank is sparkling clean with no need for clarifiers and the like. I will recommend this for use in 20 gallon tanks since thats what I have, but it should be fine for up to 30 or 35 gallons too I would think.

Great filter, don't think you'll find anything better for under $20 or even $30. I'm very happy with this filter. There's a lot of surface area for biological filtration in the form of two foam blocks. The two polishing pads with carbon seem up to the task.

I have a 30 gallon tank with a variety of fresh water fish. Received filter, cleaned filters and housing, installed, plugged in and has been working great for the last 2 + weeks. Crystal clear water. Very quiet-can only hear the water running into the tank. Filters easy to remove and clean. Fits my needs, especially for just under $20.

The PF-600 Hang on Back Filter is great for beginner hobbyist to expert hobbyist. The PF-600 does not have a lot of parts and pieces which means there is less of a change for something to break. I find this to be a big two thumbs up. The unit itself comes with replaceable filter pad that contain carbon and decent sized sponges filters. If the PF-600 is maintained properly it will serve well as a mechanical, chemical and biological filter making it your one-stop filter. I have a PF-600 supporting a Nano-Reef tank which is home to my 5 years old Fu Manchu Lionfish and various pieces of soft coral. I top-off the system with freshwater a couple times a week; about a half gallon. I do a partial water change once a week; about 3 -4 gallons. I rinse the filer sponges once a week, and I replace the carbon enhanced filter pads once a month. If the PF-660 can handle my nano coral reef with Fu Manchu Lionfish it will certainly take care of your tank!
