Features and Specifications:
The AQUATOP PSE1 Protein Skimmer is capable of filtering 200 Gallons per hour, making it suitable for Saltwater Aquariums up to 60 Gallons. The built-in Protein Skimmer will keep harmful waste out of your aquarium water and collect in a convenient place for removal. The PSE1 is also a "Hang-On Back" style filter enhanced with it's own 5 Watt UV Sterilizing Bulb. This "Hang-On Back" filter requires no additional parts and no extra plumbing which allows for a quick and easy installation.

What is a Protein Skimmer?
Protein Skimmers help to improve water clarity as well as increase dissolved oxygen levels. Protein Skimmers like our PSE1 are generally used in saltwater tanks or heavily stocked fresh water tanks and are a type of water purification device that performs Foam Fractionation. Sounds complicated but it’s fairly simple and ingenious. Foam Fractionation removes particulate matter, dissolved organics and pollutants from water. Foam fractionation is the process of creating micro-bubbles in a closed water column. These tiny bubbles are then forced into contact with particulate matter, dissolved organics and pollutants. The waste is ‘attracted’ to the surface of the micro-bubbles and held there by their surface tension. These waste-laden bubbles try to escape the water column by rising to the top and carrying with them a greenish brown foam. That’s waste from aquatic life! The foam, also known as Skimmate, collects into a waste collection site for easy and convenient removal. Protein Skimmers also reduce large water changes and can lower the cost of keeping an aquarium system.

Questions and Answers:
By Matt from Missouri on December 17, 2011
What are the dimensions of this filter? How is it working?
By Customer Service on December 19, 2011

Answer:
Greetings Matt,

The dimensions of the PSE-1 are 12" x 7" x 6" and the hang on style filter offers three filtration compartments. The first compartment has a Venturi style Protein Skimmer. The second compartment has a drop-in UV Sterilizer. The third compartment has a replaceable filtration cartridge with activated carbon. The PSE-1 is meant for saltwater use only. If there is anything further we can do for you please let us know.

Is the pse1 hang on protein skimmer worth the money and ease for a salt water beginner or should he consider other alternatives... if so what might they be. thankyou

WILL THIS PROTEIN SKIMMER FIT ON THE BACK OF A JBJ 28 GALLON NANO CUBE?
By Customer Service on December 27, 2012

Answer:
Hello Alex,
Assuming the dimensions of your Nano Cube are about 18x18x18, the PSE-1 protein skimmer should fit. The unit measures 12 inches in length.

Thank you,

I'd like to know if this will fit on the back of my 28 gallon Intermediate Nanocube aquarium. It's hard to tell if the hang on portion would fit, because the nanocube has built in compartments. How deep is the lip that holds it on the tank? Also, do you sell replacement uv bulbs? Thanks.
By Customer Service on December 27, 2012

Answer:
Hello Polly,
The PSE-1 protein skimmer is 12 inches wide. The front portion that sits on the tank measures 1.5 inches tall and 1.5 inches deep. The motor protrudes an additional 1.5 inches. In your situation, the space required would be about three inches.

Thank you,

Is this filter louder than most? How would your compare the noise level to those that advertise they are 'quiet'?

I have a UV filter in an outside pond and it makes the water sparkle! I know that the UV works great.
By Customer Service on March 7, 2012

Answer:
Greetings Janie,

We apologize for the delay in response. The majority of the company was away to a trade show last week and we are doing our best to catch-up.

The PSE-1 is a unique filter and yes will be louder when compared to traditional hang-on style filters. But there is good reason for this. The PSE-1 combines a Protein Skimmer (meant for saltwater use only) and a 5 watt UV Sterilizer. In addition to this, there is a extra filtration media compartment for your filtration media of choice making the PSE-1 a one of a kind filter.

If there is anything further we can do for you please do not hesitate to ask.

the above description says it can be used in heavily stocked freshwater tanks. will this work for a goldfish tank?
By Customer Service on January 9, 2013

Answer:
Hello Lynn,
The PSE-1 filter with protein skimmer will collect any in-organics that may be in your water. It will work just fine on a gold fish tank; however, depending on your current filtration set up, we do not recommend using a protein skimmer in conjunction with another filter that uses a large quantity of carbon. The reason for this is the carbon will serve the same purpose as the protein-skimming feature and may render the actual skimmer as useless.

Will the pse1 work in a 29g quarantine tank I'll probably dose it so I'm wondering if it'll will affect the skimming? Or should I just go with the pf15
By Customer Service on January 18, 2013

Answer:
Hello Eric,
The PSE-1 power filter with protein skimmer is designed for saltwater applications but can be used in freshwater setups. If you plan on using the unit in a quarantine tank, you may find better success with our PF40-UV hang-on back filter with UV clarification. This model will better handle the capacity of your tank and offers a higher filtration capacity compared to the PF15-UV. The PSE-1 will work on your application; however, depending on what medicine you use and how the chemical reactions occur, the PSE-1 could reduce the effect of the medication.

Thank you,

I've purchased a Fluval Edge 12 gallon aquarium and I am going to make it a saltwater tank. The system comes with its own filter but I like the added features of the protein skimmer an uv sterilizer. Would the PSE1 Hang-On Protein Skimmer w/ UV + Power Filter fit the tank? It only has a tiny opening at the top and a cover box that fits over it for a nice clean look.
By Customer Service on April 5, 2012

Answer:
Greetings Antonio,

We regret to inform you that the PSE-1 unit will not fit onto a Fluval Edge.

If you have any further questions regarding the PSE-1 please do not hesitate to ask.

i just bought a pse1 power skimmer and i have a lot of air bubbles in my tank how do i fix the problem. or is there suspost to be alot of air bubbles in my tank?

By Customer Service on August 30, 2012

Answer:
Randy,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding a PSE-1 and micro-bubbles entering your aquarium. What you are experiencing is common and expected. The majority of Protein Skimmers are Venturi driven and produce micro-bubbles.Your aquarium should not receive micro-bubbles from the unit. You can control the amount of air entering the unit with the Air Flow Control Knob located at the end of the Venturi Line. Also, you can slow the flow rate passing through the filter by dialing back the flow rate knob located on the intake tube. We suggest using the two mention forms of adjustment to dial in the Protein Skimmer. When the Protein Skimmer is dialed in you should not experience micro-bubbles inside the aquarium. Another solution would be to add a dense form of mechanical filtration to the last filter compartment. A dense filter sponge will help eliminate the air bubbles.

If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Lots of bubbles!
March 13, 2013
I love this thing but it produces tons of microbubbles and I've done everything to make it stop doing that but they keep going. Both of them are doing it. However, its a great filter and does a great job skimming.
Merchant Response:
After 6 to 8 weeks, the bubble should stop.
Pros:
Skimmer/UV/Filtration all in one.
Cons:
all the dang microbubbles!

Nice Results for the Price
December 19, 2012
I purchased the PSE1 because it was a combination UV sterilizer and protein skimmer in 1 and it was a piggy back style to boot. I don't have a lot of room in my study. Skimmer is easy to set up. It does put a lot of bubbles in the tank at first but in about 3 days the bubbles all but disappeared once it started really skimming. I won't kid you, it is a little noisy for a skimmer but since it isn't in a TV room or bedroom, it doesn't matter. For the money, it really does a nice job cleaning out the organics. It's been running a few days now and I dump a whole holding-cup of extract every day. My recommendation is you don't OVER extract. Set it so the bubbles just reach above the top of the tube in the holding-cup. You may have to keep adjusting at first as it begins to work. If the bubbles in the tank are high, check your salinity too. If it's over about 1.023-1.024, you will get more bubbles.
Pros:
Effective, Good Value
Cons:
Noisy

this product is a great ideal
April 17, 2012
THIS PRODUCT IS A GREAT IDEA I LIKE HAVING THE SKIMMER AND STERILIZER IN ONE UNIT. I USED THIS PRODUCT IN MY 30 GAL SALTWATER REEF AND I DON'T HAVE A LOT OD SPACE SO THIS UNIT WAS IDEA. THE ONE THING THEY CAN IMPROVE ON IS THE FILTER AREA IT DOES NOT SEEM LIKE IT IS BIG ENOUGH TO PROCESS THE FLOW I HAD TO RAIS IT UP A LITTLE TO ACOMADATE THE AMOUNT OF FLOW GOING THRU THE UNIT ALSO THEY COULD USE A BETTER ADJUST MENT ON THE COLLECTIONCUP BUTIT WAS A SIMPLE FIX I JUST USE THE ROUND HAIR BANDS GIRLS USE TO TIE THIER HAIR UP WITH AND TAT WORKS FINE. OTHER THAN THAT IT WORKS GREAT.
Pros:
Easy to Use, Great idea, Effective
Cons:
Needs a larger filter

Saltwater Tanks
