AQUATOP UV-3 Submersible UV Lamp Work best with our Power Head
AQUATOP's Series of submersible UV Lamps are the perfect way to control free-floating micro-organism as well as disease causing pathogens. As water is pumped through these units with a compatible pump / power head(not included), the UV lamp clarifies and sterilizes the water, providing you with clear healthy water.
Simply attach one of AQUATOP's Compatible Pumps/ Power Heads (not included) to the top of the Submersible UV Lamp. Submerge the compact assembly directly into you aquarium or sump and power on the units. The power head will draw water into the bottom of the unit running it by the UV Lamp to sterilize the water before it exits the pump / power head.
COMPATIBLE AQUATOP POWER HEADS PH-8, PH-16

Would this fit in the back of an 29g nano cube?
By Customer Service on October 2, 2012

Answer:
John,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding a UV-3 submersible UV unit. We understand you would like to use this unit in conjunction with a 29g nano cube. Please share additional information regarding the placement of this unit. We do not know the available space and are unable to give you an answer. The UV-3 is 8.5" tall and has a diameter of 1.75". The UV-3 does not have a motor. It is a stand alone 3W UV unit that allows for water to flow through it. So it will need to be plumbed into existing plumbing or attached to a powehead or pump. Below is an example of a bundle package we sell.

Please get back to us with additional information so we may better assist you.

hi all
i have this uv3 with a ph-8 in a 60g fw community tank with sand as my substrate. i seem to be picking up the sand thru the unit.. what am i doing wrong? is there any way to reduce water flow? maybe a foam insert in the strainer.
Also what purpose does the small clear tube serve?
thanks in advance
joe

Answer:
Hello Joe,

We have received your recent product inquiry regarding a UV-3 and PH-8 combo that is picking up sand from the bottom of your aquarium. Well, the sand is being sucked up because the powerhead, PH-8 is in-taking water from the strainer which is apparently too close to the sand. We recommend repositioning the unit. You can move it up and away from the sand or till the unit diagonally. The unit does not have to be install perfectly vertical. It can be mounted horizontally if need be.

The clear plastic tube is an extra adapter. The UV-3 can be installed with a variety of products such as Hang-on Back Filters and Canister Filters.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to ask.

very effective against waterborne algae

After setting up my planted 35H tank I was battling some green water. A little over 2 days with the uv-3 and it's all clear. For the price this unit is hard to beat. I didn't purchase the matching powerhead from truAqua, and thus it took quite a bit of fiddling to get a good connection and stable position in the tank. YMMV on that aspect. The cord placement could possibly be refined and possibly a less stiff cord provided. It would also be quite nice if the unit could be 'convertible' for in-line use.
Pros:
Effective, inexpensive, well made
Cons:
somewhat bulky, not easily convertible for in-line use.
